How will I measure my life?
This week I was faced with the reality that what I do with my life, truly matters, and living my life to the fullest really depends on how I will personally measure my life and the standards and values I have for me. This week, while studying entrepreneurship, I was acutely made aware that I needed to define what it is that I value in life.
In studying “Launching Leaders – An Empowering Journey for a New Generation” by. Steven A. Hitz, I was inspired by his “Cycle of Spiritual Guidance”. This cycle should help a person to focus on their true, core values and less on external factor. Building my foundation on God and my core values rather than a title, career, or wealth, will allow me to be truer to myself, but also, better able be lead by God. The steps in “The Cycle of Spiritual Guidance” are:
1. Discover your true identity.
2. Trust your inner voice.
3. Have faith to act right away.
4. Be at peace with Heaven’s timing.
5. Live well.
6. Repeat throughout your life.
With my focus of learning how I will measure my life, the week I had a huge focus on discovering who I truly am and what I truly value. I spent a ton of time praying and pondering what my core values are and how I can define them. At my core, I know that what I value most is humility, leadership, and integrity. All of these things have been tested and questioned recently, and I have learned the importance I have placed in defending these values. Because of this, I have created the following Core Value Statements, that I plan to honor and spend my life trying to live up to these statements. I will measure all success and failure based on my ability to live true to these statements. My Core Value Statements are:
Humble Leader: A humble leader is someone who is secure with themselves enough that they yearn to learn from every person they encounter the intent to constantly grow and evolve. A humble leader loves others and always seeks to understand others better and finds potential in others. I will approach everyone with a desire to learn from them and understand them. I will be authentic and lead people from a place of love and respect. I am a humble leader.
Filled with Integrity: Someone who is filled with integrity, seeks to be honest in all of their dealings. Honors others by telling the truth and being genuine to their personal beliefs while maintaining their own core values. Someone who is filled with integrity does the right and honest thing even when nobody is watching and someone with integrity can hold their head up high knowing that they are defenders of truth. I will be a defender of the truth and others will know my core values because I am unafraid to champion for what is right. I will be genuine and honest with others and honor others core values. I am filled with integrity.
