Hold On
This week in our Entrepreneur class, we studied and discussed overcoming challenges in business. I did find it interesting, that many of the challenges were often personal challenges that affected the business. Anyway, I think it is clear to assume that just as in life, in business, we are always going to be faced with challenges. Some major, and some minor, but knowing how to overcome the challenges, is crucial to being successful.
There were two major things that stood out to me this week, in relation to overcoming challenges:
1. Find your “why.”
2. Hold on.
In David Carrington’s interview, he talked about how when he got cancer, it helped him to reassess his life and put things into perspective. He said, “I was able to take a step back and look at balance and decide that I was out of balance…We get so ingrained in what we’re doing, we don’t take a breath to see why we’re doing it.” When things get hard, or when challenges arise, it is usually because we are out of balance, and we need to make some changes to get back into balance. I love his closing remarks, “I think if people, or entrepreneurs, understand that one of our goals is to clearly know who we are and what our and what our brand is, and consistently execute the brand. I you’ll do that you’ll be successful.” Understanding why we are doing what we are doing is crucial to our success.
I was inspired, as I always am by Jeffrey R. Holland’s talk, “Good Things to Come”, where he recounts a story from when he was a young father and having trouble on a road trip. He said that years later when he passed the same spot in the road where he remembered feeing completely defeated, he wished he could have told his younger self, “Don’t you quit! You keep walking. You keep trying. There is help and happiness ahead. Some blessings come soon. Some come late, and some don’t come till Heaven. But for those who embrace the gospel of Jesus Christ, they come. It will be alright in the end. Trust God, and believe in good things to come.”
I think that the biggest thing that I gained this week was to just keep going, keep walking. That when we put our faith in the Lord and keep working hard, good things will come. That there is happiness ahead, but we have to get there.
